Thoughts on Reading, Writing, and 'Rithmetic

Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder are behavioral disorders, not disorders of learning.  In various studies as many as 50% of those diagnosed with a learning or reading difference have also been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD.

Although disabilities may co-occur, one is not the cause of the other.

That means that treatment for ADD/ADHD will not be effective as treatment for a learning disorder such as dyslexia.

And treatment for learning disorders doesn't treat ADD.

However, if an individual is having trouble understanding something (learning disorder), he/she may appear to be inattentive.  And an attention problem will get in the way of an individual's ability to learn.  So it's tricky to manage, especially since ADD/ADHD can be difficult to diagnose.
